DIY Canvas Art Knock Off

Many moons ago (5 years to be accurate) I wanted to make my daughter's nursery elegant and girly and I had all the right stuff to do so, except the art work. Enter...knock off DIY canvas art!!

Now I don't consider myself an artist by any means...I'm not even good, but I'm capable, so I searched for the right art to fit her room decor and everything I fell in love with was so expensive!! So what's the next best thing to pricey artwork? A handmade knock off!!

I found five pieces that I adored, so I rolled up my sleeves, broke out the paints and got down and dirty! Sadly, only two of the five made it to completion and into her room! I managed to finish a third, while two still sit waiting for my finishing touches!!

Here is the uber-pricey, professional painting Boho Bird by Reesa:

And now, for my less than stellar knock off:

And the side-by-side:

Now here is where I will ask for your "polite" (I'll cry if it's too harsh lol) criticism! Be honest...would you hang the knock off in your home?

    1. Thank you Deanna!! I am fond of my painting, however, that bird on the bottom kind of looks "bloated" to me! lol Of course, we are always our own worst critics!

  2. You did a fabulous copy! It's even better for your child to have because it's your work, painted just for her. I would hang it in my home. Yes.

  3. I never comment on blogs, but I have to on this one. I love your version. The motifs are larger and more vibrant and I like the colors that you have chosen. Your daughter certainly wont notice the difference. I would not have noticed the bird if you had not pointed it out and even after having it pointed out I don't think it looks bad. When your daughter outgrows the look you can put in a consignment shop. I bet it would go quickly.

    1. Thank you Jess!! I'd never consider myself talented, as it seems only certain "works of art" are reproducible for me!! I'd always dreamed I could be an artist!

Thanks for hosting the link up!

  8. I found your blog through Sugar Bee Crafts Take a Look Tuesday and this is so pretty! I just bought a new home and I would rather craft or make something to hang up, but I can't paint like you. Your copy is so lovely. I would hang it in my home!

    1. Thank you Helen!! Believe it or not, I really can't paint either! lol This was a happy accident! If it's an "easy" pattern I can draw/trace, I'm good, otherwise, not so much!! lol
