Calling All Animal Lovers - SOS

I understand that this blog is geared towards home interior inspiration, and also that I haven't been doing my "job" and keeping this blog up to date, and also for posting two days in a row! BUT I have an URGENT plea that I need your help with. Here is an explanation...

About a year ago, I started volunteering my time with a shelter in a poor, rural county in South Carolina. There is a rescue group who "won" the contract to take over and run the county shelter in Marion, SC. I first started by offering my services to "overnight" the animals who leave the shelter weekly, and go on an adventure (transport) up the East Coast to their fur ever homes or rescues. What a truly rewarding experience it was! Getting to "love" on puppies for a night (cuddle them, spoil them rotten) and them send them on their way the next morning, knowing that they are FINALLY free is a feeling to treasure! But, a bad case of fleas meant that I had to take some time off from opening my home to these beauties.

Feeling guilty as can be, I decided that I would offer my services by stepping up to be a transport coordinator - the team who makes it all happen in getting those pups out of the shelter, in the drivers cars, into the overnight homes, and back on their ways to the rescues. An extremely time consuming, demanding volunteer job.

Everything was going smoothly until some "bad blood" decided to make, what will prove to be their most fatal mistake, a choice to turn their backs on the animals over some personal issues. Someone decided it would be a nice "gesture" to provide the county with some falsified documents, and therefore, we've recently learned that the county has made the decision to pull their funding for this shelter, and now there is NO money. This means the inevitable will happen - hundreds of dogs and cats will face ultimate death. The funding is so low the shelter can't pay it's employees, and the threat of having to halt heartworm treatment approaches.

I urge, no, beg you to please, look into your hearts and help this little shelter that could out. Here is the link (Paws to the Rescue at Marion County Animal Shelter) to read up on this shelter and the wonderful cause that has taken over it's operation - the rescue that I have poured my heart into for the last year of my life. Here are just a few of the precious faces that need our help...

If you can't spare your extra change, then maybe you could spare your time? We are always looking for volunteers to drive transport (starting in South Carolina going through NC, VA, MD, DE, NJ, PA, NY, CT, MA, and ME), we need help in almost every facet, from grant writers, to transport coordinators, to fundraisers, to donated goods.

We have a general pledge account set up if you are gracious enough to donate funds, through Pledgie.com. Paws to the Rescue (PttR) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, so all contributions are tax deductible. If you are willing/able to rescue or adopt, please consider email adoptpttr@gmail.com and fill out an application. If you know of good rescues who are able to pull the animals, please, send them our way.

If you want to drive for our transport, or volunteer to become a transport coordinator, please, email kkolbeck96@gmail.com.

Again, I am begging my blogging community for help! I can't thank you enough for taking the time to read this post, and I pray that we can find the help that we so desperately need to get this shelter back on it's feet so that we can continue to save the lives of thousands of helpless animals.

Will you be the one to make the difference in the lives of these animals? Will you help?

$1000 to burn

I am sending out one thousand apologies for being missing in action these last few weeks. I had an emergency come up with one of the animal transports that I volunteer with, and let's just say that since June 27th, my days were filled with 18 hours of non-stop work, stress, and worry. BUT, now, I'm BACK!! And with my return, I wish to engage you all in a little Q&A challenge...

I recently got an email from Brent Riggs of Linky Blog Tips, in which he challenged us to ask our readers what we would do with a sum of money that we could ONLY use for our blog niche. I could make this easy and give us all a huge limit, but I'm going to press our creativity and set the limit to a more reasonable figure. So here is your question...

If you had, say, $1,000 to spend however you wished in your blog niche, what would you spend it on?  And why? Make sure it's for your niche and comment away!!!!

Google Reader Out. Bloglovin’ In.

I’m very new to blogging…4 months new. So, I don’t have many followers via Google Friends Connect, and only a handful via Bloglovin’, so transition my readers shouldn't be too hard…right?
I've heard that Google Reader is finished as of July 1st, but if your blog is hosted through Blogger, then you will still be able to use the Google reader. Thanks to internet fantasy land, I’m not so sure how much truth there is to that claim. So, I've made the bold decision to eliminate my Friend Connect widget completely.

So, if you want to follow me, you’ll have to do so via Bloglovin’!!

Coffee and Conversations - Breaking Habits

Coffee & Conversation

Good morning everyone! I realize that it's been quite some time since I've last shared a Coffee & Conversation with you, and I'm bummed that I missed the last 5 or so weeks. It's been a very hectic month with getting the house ready to sell, showing it, etc. But, no excuses! I'm back and ready to roll!!

This week's question: What's the habit your most proud of breaking?

As I was reading Lauren's post she began as saying most people jump to truly bad habits like smoking, etc, when they think of this topic. At first, I thought to myself, yes, you are right! My worst habit is smoking. I needed to quit like 5 years ago! But, after giving it some good thought I'm beginning to realize that as I'm typing this, my worst habit has to be consistency. I have none. I go all gung-ho into a new project or idea, and then once the glitter wears off I'm over it. Poof. Just like that. I guess that's why the name of this blog is so fitting - I'm so undone with everything I've ever started!

Have I broken this habit? Heck no! Do I plan to? Heck yeah!! Will I? Probably not. But with great effort, I will make sure that I give it my all. To be honest with you, I'm not even sure of where to begin to start breaking a habit like this! It seems as though my ability to stick it out from start to finish all depends on my mood. If I'm pressured to get it done (like de-cluttering the house because of a looming list date hanging over my head) I have no problem. But if I set out to do something for pleasure, etc., I can't guarantee that I'll ever have it finished! I've come to the stark realization that I have way too many projects that have been started in the house. In the nine years we've been here, I can honestly say only two have been done to total completion. And that's out of about 100 projects. Wow. That's pretty sad. And it's not just home improvement related. It's everything. I noticed the other day that there was still a bottle of my kids antibiotics in the fridge. I start out strong like Dr. Mom, and before the 10-day course is over, they are feeling better, and I forget (or get lazy, or whatever my problem is) and they never get their last dose or two. Now that's just not okay! Shame on me.

I have these grandiose ideas and intentions! I gather up all the inspiration one could need (and end up with such an overload of pictures gathered over the years that I can now start a blog with just them alone!), get excited to start a project, and then realize half-way into it that I'm not going to finish this one either. And let me just say, my consistency is even worse now that I have kids!!

No matter what the issue behind my lack of consistency is, I truly need to work on resolving this bad habit. As I've said, I have no clue where to even start! Has anyone else experienced this? Were you able to break your habit? If so, how?!!

Next week's question: How would you describe modesty for the modern woman & why is (or isn't) it important in today's world?
